Dubai is one of the seven emirates of the United Arab Emirates. It covers about 4,114 sq km — around five per cent of the country, islands excluded — on the eastern coast of the Arabian Peninsula, bordered by Abu Dhabi and Sharjah and sharing an international boundary with Oman.

Almost everything a first-time guest pictures sits on a narrow coastal strip. The emirate is larger than that picture: it runs inland to the wadis of Hatta, and back to Dubai Creek, the natural harbour dividing Deira from Bur Dubai where the trading economy began. A tourism board reads that as a list of sights. A destination management company reads it as distances, timings and access.

Two international airports serve the city — Dubai International (DXB) and Al Maktoum International (DWC) — and which one a guest lands at changes the first afternoon of the holiday. We hold transfer estimates from both to all 19 districts we brief, because the gap between a 20-minute run and a 70-minute one is the difference between a dinner reservation kept and a dinner reservation lost. Those figures are our own planning estimates, not published data, and we label them that way rather than dress them up as facts.

So this hub is organised by district first. Where a guest sleeps decides how the week runs: 8 of the 19 districts are genuinely walkable, 2 have no metro station at all, and a beach address that reads beautifully in a brochure can put ninety minutes of Sheikh Zayed Road between a family and the theme park they came for. Attractions get the same treatment: 51 are on file, 46 sellable today and 5 published by their own operators as closed. We list the closed ones instead of hiding them, in the operator’s wording rather than ours.

What you will not find anywhere on this site is a price. Net rates are contracted per agency and move with season, volume and room mix, so a public grid would be wrong for every reader it reached. What we publish instead is judgement and operational truth — which is the part that is actually hard to buy.
