Desert
Overnight desert safari / desert camping
- Direct guests
- honeymoon
- small groups
An evening safari extended to a night under canvas in the desert, with a sunrise element the following morning.
Widely marketed at approximately 12–18 hours; a common structure is a 14:30 pickup and a return to the hotel around 08:30 the next morning.
How it operates
Afternoon pickup as per an evening safari. After the camp entertainment finishes and day guests depart, overnight guests stay on. Sleeping is in a Bedouin-style tent — operators describe a Nawar bed with pillows and blankets — with shared or private washroom facilities depending on camp grade. Guests wake for sunrise, take a short camel trek or dune walk, have breakfast and are driven back to the city mid-morning.
Typically included
- Everything in an evening safari
- Overnight tent accommodation with bedding
- Sunrise viewing
- Morning camel trek or desert walk
- Arabian breakfast
- Morning return transfer
For agents
Operating and selling mechanics
- Strong incentive and honeymoon product; also works as a 'wow' night for small VIP groups.
- Ask specifically about washroom facilities, power, and whether the camp is exclusive-use for the night — this is where complaints originate.
For travellers
What to brief your guests on
- Camp comfort varies enormously — from basic shared-facility tents to fully serviced private tents. Grade must be confirmed at booking, not assumed.
- Desert nights are cold in winter; warm layers are essential November–February.
- Inside the DDCR, overnight options are camping with a permitted operator or a suite at Al Maha, the only resort inside the reserve.
Seasonality
Realistically October–April. Summer overnights are uncomfortable.

Made to measure
