The volume product of Dubai inbound tourism: an afternoon-to-night 4x4 excursion into the desert combining dune driving, a sunset stop, camp activities, a buffet or BBQ dinner and live cultural entertainment.

Roughly 6 hours end to end; commonly quoted as approximately 16:00 to 22:00, shifting earlier in winter as sunset moves.

How it operates

Hotel pickup mid-afternoon in a 4x4 (typically 6 guests per vehicle on a shared basis, or a private vehicle on request). Convoy transfer to a dune-driving area, tyre deflation, a dune-bashing run, a sunset photo stop, then transfer to a permanent desert camp for activities, dinner and a show. Drop-off back at the hotel late evening.

For agents

Operating and selling mechanics

  • This is the single most price-shopped product in Dubai. The credible differentiators are: which desert the safari actually operates in, camp exclusivity, vehicle age and guide quality — not headline price.
  • Shared safaris run on fixed pickup windows; a group of 20+ generally justifies a dedicated convoy and its own camp table.
  • Confirm whether the operator is running inside a conservation reserve or on open desert — it changes the product materially.

For travellers

What to brief your guests on

  • Dune bashing is a genuinely physical activity — motion sickness is common. It is normally not recommended for pregnant guests, people with back, neck or heart conditions, or very young children.
  • Wear loose, comfortable clothing and closed shoes; bring a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen; add a layer for winter evenings as desert temperatures drop sharply after sunset.
  • Camps are large and shared — for a quiet or premium evening, sell a conservation-reserve or private-camp product instead.

Seasonality

Sells year-round but is far more comfortable October–April. Pickup times move with sunset.
