Conservation-reserve safari (DDCR)

A safari operated inside the Dubai Desert Conservation Reserve by one of the reserve's permitted concession holders, under DDCR rules.
How it operates
Access is restricted to permitted operators only; there is no independent entry. Dune driving is on predefined routes. Guides are DDCR-certified. Camps inside the reserve are limited in number and used mainly for Bedouin-style dining and limited camping. Approved tours must focus on nature and/or culture, must apply sustainable-tourism practice including waste management, and invite guests to record wildlife observations back to the reserve.
Typically included
- Wildlife drive with a DDCR-certified conservation guide
- Realistic prospect of seeing free-roaming Arabian oryx and gazelle
- Falconry, camel trek, archery, horse riding, sandboarding depending on operator
- Dune dinner in Bedu tents or a private desert dinner
For agents
Operating and selling mechanics
- Access is sold through the reserve's permitted concession holders, and which operators hold a permit changes. Confirm an operator's current standing with DDCR before contracting with them or naming them to a client.
- Al Maha is the only resort inside the reserve, which makes it the single in-reserve overnight option and a capacity-constrained one.
- Because capacity is capped, DDCR product should be booked earlier than open-desert product for December–February and for groups.
Why permits matter
The permit regime is the product. It caps volume, controls routes, certifies guides and protects the wildlife that makes the drive worth doing. Selling 'a safari in the DDCR' is a factual, checkable claim; selling 'a luxury desert safari' is not.

Made to measure
Our Dubai team arranges the hotels, transfers and excursions on the ground across all seven Emirates — so the programme is assembled around the dates you send us, not around a fixed departure calendar.
The fleet is ours, and so is the team that dispatches it.
